I’m a scholar of religion and culture, a specialist of Buddhism and Japan. As a postdoc at UGent’s Center for Buddhist Studies in Belgium, I’m focusing on two main projects. The first is a monograph on two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Japan, one mountain and one island, that ban women’s access on the basis of religious tradition. My second, more recent venture considers women’s exclusion from the world of sumo wrestling in Japan (also tied to religious beliefs).
